Long

New Principal Welcome

Dear Long Families,

I hope you are enjoying a fantastic summer.   I am honored to be appointed as the new principal of Long Elementary and am grateful to Mrs. Jakubus for her years of service.  I look forward to meeting each and every member of the Long community.

This is my 27th year with Dearborn Public Schools.  I spent 16 years as a classroom teacher before being appointed the assistant principal and then principal of Bryant Middle School.  For the past seven years, I have served as one of the Executive Director of Student Achievement.  Although I enjoyed many aspects of that position, nothing replaces the true excitement of working closely with and leading a school community.  Therefore, I requested to return to a principal position and Dr. Maleyko was kind enough to grant that request.

I am proud to have raised my family in Dearborn.  My children all graduated from Dearborn High School.  All adults now, my daughter is a teacher and my two sons have chosen careers in  law enforcement.  Along with being an educator, I have spent 34 years coaching skating at the Dearborn Ice Skating Center and the Dearborn Crystallette Synchronized Skating Teams.

The last year and a half has been challenging for all of us .  As we prepare to return to school, we are looking forward to an exciting year.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns, questions or just want to meet.  I will be dropping in to summer school each week to meet students, staff and parents and am happy to make appointments to meet with parents.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Shannon Peterson

Sincerely,
