Food Distribution Schedule Update

Dearborn Public Schools families are reminded that the meal distribution schedule will have a few changes starting the week of May 18 – the week before Memorial Day.

Because schools were scheduled to be closed on Friday and Monday for Memorial Day weekend, there will be no food distribution on May 22 and 25.

Meal distributions will still occur on Monday May 18 and on Wednesday May 20. The May 20 distribution will include breakfasts and lunches for a full week, so families should be prepared to carry the larger quantity, including a half gallon of milk per student.

Through May 20 pickup times will continue to be later at four locations. Fordson High School, Woodworth Middle School, Salina Intermediate and McCollough Elementary will distribute meals from noon to 2 p.m.

Long Elementary, Dearborn High School, Edsel Ford High School and Smith Middle School will hand out meals from 10 a.m. to noon.

The week after Memorial Day, meal distribution will go back to 10 a.m. to noon at all locations. Meals that week will be distributed on Wednesday, May 27 and Friday, May 29.

Dearborn Public Schools has been providing 65,000 grab-and-go meals a week for our students.

One person can pick up food for any student living in the home. The child does not need to attend that school. Each bag contains breakfast and lunch for the days until the next pickup.

The grab-and-go meals are provided free to families through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s School Lunch Program. Through the program, Dearborn Public Schools offered free lunch and breakfast to all kindergarten to 12th grade students before schools were closed to slow the spread of novel coronavirus.

Meal distribution schedule:

May 11, 13, 15, 18 and 20

Meals distributed from 10 a.m. to noon at Long Elementary, Dearborn High School, Edsel Ford High School and Smith Middle School and from noon to 2 p.m. at Fordson High School, Woodworth Middle School, Salina Intermediate and McCollough Elementary.

May 27 and 29 and June 1, 3, 5, 8 and 10

Meals distributed from 10 a.m. to noon at all locations.

Long School Kindergarten Round Up

We would like to welcome our incoming kindergarteners and their parents to Long Elementary School. While we may not be able to have a traditional Kindergarten Round Up, we wanted to share some information that may be useful as you and your child prepare to enter Kindergarten this fall. We are looking forward to working with you as your child begins the next phase of their education.

Materials and Math Module Distribution

This week on Tuesday, May 5 and Thursday, May 7, Long School will be distributing materials to help students continue their learning, as well as any math modules they may need for the rest of the school year. You may pick them up in the student drop off zone on New York (near the parking lot) between 10:00 and 1:00. We will provide drive up and walk up service similar to food distribution. We will also have Kindergarten registration packets available.

A Long Time Ago …

in a school district far, far away the younglings and padawans were hard at work on their remote learning while their Jedi Master teachers worked diligently to continue their growth. Yes, it’s time for our annual Long School Star Wars Day celebration. Even though we aren’t together, we can still share our enjoyment of this incredible world. I would love to see your celebration pictures, email them to me at Remember, same rules apply as if we were in school, leave your blasters and light sabers on your star cruisers. May the Fourth be with you!

Thank You Long School Community!

Wow, do I feel loved! What a unique Principal’s Day celebration. From the balloons, streamers, banners and chalk messages at our food distribution area to all of the drive by wishes and signs (including a socially distanced pep rally by staff) I definitely feel honored. It is such a blessing to be part of this extraordinary community. Thank you everyone! I miss you all so much. Stay healthy, stay safe,

Mrs. Jakubus
