Long

New for Fall!

Long School will be home to several new programs beginning this fall.

First, we will be opening a Great Start to Readiness Program classroom this year. This is a funded preschool program for four year olds. We are extremely excited to welcome teacher, Veronica Kubitz, back to Long. Mrs. Kubitz’s children attended Long School and Mrs. Kubitz has been a very involved member of the school community. If you have a four year old child and are interested in learning more, please call Cotter Preschool at (313) 827-6150 or Long School after August 22.

In addition, we will be housing a preschool program for students in need of additional support. We are looking forward to welcoming teacher, Elizabeth Shaw, to the Long School community. She has been enthusiastically preparing for her young learners.

Finally (for now), Long School will be one of the first Dearborn Schools to implement the National Parent Teacher Home Visit Project.

Your teacher may be contacting you to set up a home visit. This is NOT a meeting to tell you what to do as a parent or to get you to sign up for anything. This is a time to get to know you and your student away from school. This is also a time for you to get to know your child’s teacher. During the visit, time is taken to share Hopes & Dreams, experiences, and school resources. It is also completely voluntary on your part.

Studies show that this program has increased student academic achievement and improved parent engagement in schools. It has brought teachers and families closer together and created opportunities for better communications between home and school.

Enjoy the rest of the summer break and don’t forget to visit our Media Center on Mondays (1-4) and Thursdays (9-12).
