Dear Long Elementary Families,
Welcome back to an exciting new year of learning! We look forward to having all students back in the building. The staff at Long Elementary is excited to begin a partnership with you as we work together to provide a challenging, fun and memorable school year for our students.
The following are important bits of information to prepare you for the beginning of the school year. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the office.
Soft Start to Kindergarten
Soft Start is a district initiative focused on a slower transition for our youngest students into elementary school. Kindergarten students have half days from August 30th until September 10th. Kindergarten teachers will be sending information to their students and signing students up for individual assessments so we can make every minute count this year. Kindergarten students first full day of school is Monday, September 13th.
GSRP
GSRP staff will be reaching out to families during the first week of September. At that time, GSRP families will be given start dates, schedules and expectations.
Class Rosters
Class rosters will be posted on Friday, August 27th after 5pm. Rosters will be displayed on entry doors.
School Supplies
Dearborn Public Schools provides all school supplies and learning materials required for students. Teachers may share a list of optional supplies.
First Day of School Line Up
Teachers will meet their students in the morning. For the safety of our students and staff and due to mitigation protocols, parents will not be allowed in the building for entry or dismissal. If you need assistance or have a meeting with a staff member, you will need to come to the main doors and sign in.

Kids Club
Due to lack of enrollment, Kids Club has been suspended. If you are interested in enrolling and we meet the minimum head count, the District may consider reinstating the program at Long Elementary. Please contact:

Important Dates
- Monday, August 30th: First day of school (9:00 am – 12:05 am).
- Tuesday, August 31st: First full day of school (9:00 am – 3:55 pm) for grades 1 through 5.
- Tuesday, August 31st – Friday, September 10th: Kindergarten Soft Start (9:00 a.m. – 12:05 p.m.).
- Friday, September 3rd and Monday, September 6th: No School, Labor Day Recess
- Thursday, Sept 9th: Open House (6:00pm – 7:30pm)
Safety and Covid Mitigation
We are returning to full time face to face instruction. There are no plans for a hybrid schedule.
Masks are currently mandatory for staff, students and visitors while inside the building. Please note that regulations for masks can change daily. We will keep you informed on any and all changes.
