STEM Application 2016.17

Enrollment is limited and based on student interest and test scores. Currently, we will have 60 openings for 6th grade (current 5th graders) and no openings for 7th grade (current 6th graders), and 3 opening for 8th grade (current 7th graders).

8th grade is still in the planning stages and we will have more information sometime in semester 2.

Process: Apply before the deadline! Administration will look at your M-Step and NWEA scores. Depending on number of applicants, a selection will be asked to come to the Dearborn Heights Campus and take the Explore test. Based on those scores students will be invited to attend the STEM school.

Testing is penciled in for the weeks between April 4 and 22nd.

This is a school of choice and transportation is the families responsibility.

Lowrey Carolers Come Calling at Long

Students involved in the afterschool music program at Lowrey School visited Long School today and entertained us with their caroling. Under the direction of music teacher, Ashley Helper and with the assistance of teacher, Rana Hassna, 44 students in grades 4 and 5 rode the bus to Long and performed several songs for students in first, second and third grades. Everyone enjoyed the event and we are very thankful to Ms. Helper for including Long School in the singers’ itinerary.

There’s Snow Place Like Long!

Snow place like Long

Our School Culture Committee has transformed the main hallway into a Winter Wonderland. The fence that once held pumpkins is now home to snowmen and snow women enthusiastically displaying their math knowledge. Every student is contributing in their own unique way. Stop by and ask your child to point out his or her snowman.

Thank You Ms. Pizzino!

Ms. Pizzino

Today was Ms. Pizzino’s last official day with her first graders. Mrs. McShane is returning from her leave on Monday.
The Long School community and all of the students would like to thank her immensely for all she has done for us. Her dedication, energy and positive attitude created an atmosphere where students were able to grow and learn each day. We look forward to seeing her back at Long School soon.

Long Recycling is underway!

Long School City Beautiful Jr. Commissioners, Ayah and Brian, were sworn in by Mayor O’Reilly last week. Our City Beautiful representatives head up our Student Recycling Committee. The Recycling Committee is responsible for educating Long students about ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. They have a bulletin board in the hall and present during assemblies. They also collect recycling from classrooms and take our bins out for curbside pick-up.

Congratulations to Mrs. Ciecko’s Class

Students attending Dearborn’s Homecoming were able to enter a raffle sponsored by the DFT to win books for their entire class. Long School 2nd grader, Xaiver, was the Elementary School winner! The DFT board came to Mrs. Ciecko’s classroom with a sign, a plaque and a beautiful selection of books for everyone. It was so exciting! Thank you Dearborn Federation of Teachers.
